Making handmade 3-D wearable art satisfies a deep, uncontrollable urge to combine beautiful, handmade, nature born objects for this jewelry artist. Lynda Wallis utilizes materials from all over the world, favoring beads specifically, to create fresh, new pieces. She describes her deep appreciation for hand-work was locked in as a young girl during long hot summers spent with her grandmother and her friends in a tiny farm town in central Illinois.
Lynda has spent 25 years as a professional illustrator. “Coming out now as bead weaver is still a surprise to me,” says Lynda, “It’s been good for my illustration work,” as well as inspiration, creativity, wanderlust, spirit, and soul. She describes her passion for bead work as a “win-win-win.”
Spending summers in a small farm town with her Grandmother was where she first fell in love with making and storytelling. Today, Lynda focuses on hand weaving leather wrap bracelets, in which she incorporates the stories of each bead. She specifically hunts for vintage, re-purposed, ethnic, and handmade beads. Other favorable matreials include natural and semi-precious stones, crystal, freshwater pearls, & buttons from her Grandmother’s button jar. Each of Lynda’s one-of-a-kind bracelets comes with a personal story, for every bead has a history.
