Jane Merrills is a self taught metalwork artist. Her work has a purposeful raw and rustic look. She focuses on uncut stones and specimens with an organic setting to match. She considers her pieces to be one of a kind miniature sculptures. She has been heavily influenced by nature and the stones themselves – the settings usually grow from the stone rather than being pre-planned.
Jane creates wire-wrapped and metalwork jewelry with an emphasis on natural and raw stones. Her preferred materials include sterling silver, karat gold, copper & brass. The techniques she uses include forming, fabrication, stone setting, and finishing.
