Chair-ity will sponsor pre-Art-A-Licious events at Downtown Adrian’s First Friday, Sept 4 from 5-8pm to get everyone in the chair art mode.
Chair-ity sponsor Omni Source will present Luke Barnett’s handmade hardwood Windsor chair that will open for silent auction bids at 5pm. Like the branches of a tree, a Windsor chair’s elements, back, and arms grow off the seat. Working by hand, Luke uses wedges to find and split off the most perfectly grained wood of a tree trunk to become elements of the chair.
Get Your Hands Messy
A Chair-ity workshop will give participants lots of support from fellow chair artists and designers to help with new ideas to transform, remission, design, and create a one-of-a-kind chair. We will have some materials and chairs on hand for use. Bring materials you have collected, and support Art-A-Licious with one of its most distinctive features–Chair-ity! Look for the white tent with chairs between the City Hall and the Adrian District Library.
Also that evening, the Adrian District Library will feature a talk about a pair of Herman Miller chairs donated to Chair-ity last year. These iconic chairs are originals from the 1950’s, quite collectable and were made in Michigan! Silent bidding will begin on First Friday, Sept 4 for both the Miller chairs and the Luke Barnett Windsor chair and will culminate during the festival Sat. Sept. 19 at 6pm.
