Art-A-Licious is pleased to present two walking tours of the downtown Adrian area on Saturday, Sept. 21.
Fans of architecture and local history will be able to join Dr. Julieanna Frost, associate professor of history at Siena Heights University, for a walk back in time to the 19th century. This tour will examine several of the buildings in Adrian’s historic business district. Highlights will include Wilcox Hardware, the Croswell Opera House, Chaloner & Co. and the old YMCA building, along with a few surprises.
The tour will begin at 1 p.m. at the Adrian Public Library and last about 1 ½ hours. Comfortable walking shoes are recommended, and there will be stairs to climb.
Frost is the chair of the history and social study departments at SHU, and the author of “Teaching the Pure Lutheran Gospel: The Life of Rosa Young.”
Ken Thompson from the Midwest Sculpture Initiative will lead a tour of downtown Adrian’s Sculpture Trail starting at 3 p.m. at the Adrian Public Library.
Funding for the displays was made possible through the Maurice and Dorothy Stubnitz Foundation, the Fee Estate Trust Fund and the Adrian Downtown Development Authority. Besides bringing beauty and interest to Adrian’s downtown, the sculptures are for sale.
The trail is part of the Midwest Sculpture Initiative, whose mission is to provide outdoor sculpture exhibitions throughout the Midwest, promote cooperation among art and civic organizations, advance the role that the visual arts play in the quality of life, and increase economic development in communities.
