Bernie Dominique is the man behind Dog House Designs, which he created as an outlet from his career in construction and carpentry. He brings the structure of his career into his art while taking chances and thinking outside the box. Being outdoors has always been important to him, and he brings those elements into his sculptures in the form of Michigan rocks and other upcycled materials. His art has won awards in Effingham, Illinois, where his sculptures have been on display for over a year. He also displays sculptures at small businesses, including SASS in Adrian, Angel’s Floral Creations in Brooklyn, Hampshire Farm Landscaping in Tecumseh, and at the Firefly Grill in Effingham, Illinois.
Dog House Designs uses upcycled metal and natural elements to create unique, one-of-a-kind art. Many sculptures feature large Michigan rocks (drilled partway through) suspended in welded cubes of the artist’s own design. Nail flowers are unique, as the nails don’t just hold the art together but make their own statement. Railroad flowers use pieces of history to come together in a rustic yet modern piece.
